Johnny Kelvin was born on Aruba as Johnny Kelvin Jean-Baptiste, son of a famous singer in the Caribbean, Lloyd Jean-Baptiste who was the first black singer to perform in the Amsterdam "Lido".
At the age of 11 Johnny moved to Holland together with his grandmother, where his career started out as a dancer. He actually ran into his first vocal performance when the music suddenly stopped at one of his dancing gigs and the party threatened to come to an end. Johnny felt that there was only on thing to do, grab the mic and sing an acapella to entertain the crowd, the party was back on track and an artist was born. Since then Johnnys voice travelled through the country as he was asked for more studio sessions and a road was built towards his solo career. The Netherlands came first but very early on it was apparent that Johnny could shine in almost every country.
In the year 2001 Johnny returned back to the Netherlands and rose to the top of the national charts with his hit "Love come Home" together with DJ Jean. Shortly after this several releases like "Dance 4 me Baby" and "Alive and Kicking", respectively reached the 10th and 20th spot making everyone aware that Johnny was here to stay. In the summer of 2002 Johnny Kelvin MC-ed for DJ Tiësto at the Love Parade in Berlin and in 2003 he let 375.000 party people go nuts to his MC version of "Dance 4 Me Baby" .
In December 2003 Johnny Kelvin started to spin records or as some people like to call the art of Dj-ing. In his sets he combined his DJ Skills with his Mc-ing and singing which made his sound quite diverse. His sound grew to be a unique blend of diverse styles from vocal house to funky tech combined with his vocal touch. Johnny Kelvin, Vocalist DJ can also be booked in band form under the name SoulEnErGee which supports his musical performance with percussion, sax and keys. In the past year Johnny has performed at most of the big summer festivals like Extrema, Mysteryland and the Hospitality Deck at the Heineken FFWD Dance Parade and has swept through the club scene like a
.
These days Johnny spends most of his time in the studio. One of his newest tracks "Shine the light" produced by Lucien Foort hit number 6 in Pete Tongs Buzz Charts (BBC 1) and is climbing as we speak.
